Your Questions Answered
We had another great question from one of our YouTube community watchers, Bansari, who expressed frustration at the lack of practice material available for Pharmacists, and also doubt, as to whether it was possible to use the much more plentiful material available for nurses and doctors instead.
We totally understand your concerns, Bansari. There is sadly still not that much available for Pharmacists, we know. We have got a small playlist of our own, which we hope to expand, but to answer your question:
Can Pharmacists Use Nursing or Medicine Material to Practise for OET?
The simple answer is "Yes. Why not?"
You will have to adapt content
You will probably have to adapt the role-plays themselves, but the good news is, there are plenty of tools available for you to do so.
Use AI to Help you with your OET
The great thing is, with so many AI tools available, it should be fairly easy enough to copy-paste a speaking role play into your preferred AI app or browser and - use this prompt - ask it to:
"Please adapt this to generate a speaking role-play based on OET.com for Pharmacy to give me two role cards, one for me, and one for my client or patient. Please ensure that you follow the standard set by OET in terms of providing a background and task."
I did this for the OET Medicine Sample Test 1 on Claude.ai and actually got a pretty good role-play card back.
You can download it here:
You can even ask AI to generate some ideas for you on how to answer it (although, it's probably a better idea to get a teacher to check for you!)
It's the Same Criteria
The other thing to remember is that the criteria remains the same across all professions, so if you take a look at the speaking videos on my playlist for other professions, you can use the same principals in your own speaking.
The OET does not mark your clinical knowledge
Bansari was worried about whether different professions might do things differently, and although approaches may vary, the other important thing to note is that the OET assessors aren't marking your clinical knowledge. They are looking at your language and communication skills, so that's what you have to focus on, just in a healthcare context.
So, even if there is not so much material for you out there, then try not to worry too much. Use what you can and adapt it to suit your needs.
Good luck!
